Last time, once again it didn't rain after the tents were set up at Pantai Kelanang, so here's another opportunity to figure out whether your tent is indeed waterproof and if you are prepared for the serious camping trips. Another ideal test run...!
We meet at the car park on Saturday before 09:00 am. When then set off for a 30 minutes hike to the Lata Jerbus campsite, dragging with you all what you think you might need at the campsite. If you can't make it by 09:00 am, you can join us any time later.
We spend a relaxing Saturday socialising, cooking and checking whether your gear will be able to endure a multiple day camping trip. We might stretch our legs in the afternoon.
On Sunday we will join those who are only interested in the Sunday hike to Lata Medang. You you can break camp after the Lata Medang hike as the campsite is located at the trail.
Do note that if you want to join the Lata Medang hike, we need to receive your payment of the permit fee before 23/03/2025 - 11:59 pm.
If you are only interested in camping, we need to receive your payment of camping fee before 28/03/2025 - 11:59 pm.
You will have to bring your own drinks and food for at least one lunch, one dinner and one breakfast. You can leave in the car what you don't need immediately - it's just an hour walk up and down...
The campsite is under trees, next to the stream, so there is water available which you have to treat before drinking/consuming it.
There are no toilet facilities. Bathing can be done in the stream near the waterfall. Please do bring biodegradable products.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.
This is a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file at the trailhead and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers. For those who are not familiar with gps navigation, you will be guided but still have to use your own navigation app on your phone.
Do note that the indicated meet-up time is not the time you should arrive at the meet-up location. It is the time that event effectively starts.
