c3s meetup #5: Quantum Canvas - Freeing the Qubit For Art
✨✨✨
Join is for a hands-on exploration of how quantum computing can be used as a creative tool in art and music.
✨✨✨
🪄 Expect demos of quantum-inspired creative works, from generative visuals to experimental music on real devices, with plenty of code to dig into, and an open ‘hack’n’play’, where you can try things out for yourself and experiment with the ideas that spark your curiosity!
Lead by Victoria Kumaran - an artist with a background in equity research and machine learning applications for cybersecurity, and Mark Carney - a pure mathematician with a background in cybersecurity research and quantum technology. Mark and Victoria run Quantum Village, whose mission is to “expose as many people as possible to the new world of quantum technologies and guide them through their first interactions, thereby raising the ‘quantum literacy’ of the tech world, one qubit at a time.”
📋 Schedule
2:00-2:30 - Intro and announcements from c3s
2:30-3:00 - (Victoria) Some background information and introduction to the theory of what we’re trying to do, e.g. how does tech fit into art, how we are approaching the problem, and some examples.
3:00-3:30 - (Mark) Speed of Light introduction to Quantum Programming quantum algorithms; we’ll probably use the P5JS ‘Qoffee’ to show both how quantum information/computing works side by side with code. We’ll give some examples for both sound, light, and audiovisual.
3:30-3:45 - Short break, refresh, answer some questions.
3:45-4:45 - (Victoria and Mark) Examples and Demonstrations; we’ll showcase our quantum art and quantum music ideas, pieces, devices, and most importantly, code!
4:45-close - Interactive ‘hack’n’play’ with what people are curious to have a go with!
🌸 About c3s
Creative coding crafts space embodies the notion of making space - physical space, head space, collaboration space - where we can get together and craft coding projects, generative artwork, new or ‘traditional’ forms of creative coding projects: anything that is born out of the interactions and inspiration that ‘space’ allows for.
We aim to meet about once a month in or around Hackney Wick - an area known for its large artistic community and a Creative Enterprise Zone. We kick things off with a couple of hours of structured content—introducing a new topic or tool, going through live demos, etc. After that, you can choose to stay and delve deeper into the topic of the day, work on your own projects or collaborate with others.

🛎️ Please note that the entrance fee is to help us cover the cost of the venue hire, and this is not a paid coding course.
