MEDIUM HIKE | Las Cárcavas & Lozoya river
Due to popular demand, we are repeating this route with a very unique landscape: las Cárcavas!
Mars? The Colorado Canyon? The Bárdenas Reales of Navarra? Maybe the Médulas of León... No! They are Las Cárcavas de Alpedrete, a made-of-clay Manhattan in Guadalajara, a span from the province of Madrid. A labyrinthine of tunnels of reddish clay skyscrapers; a beautiful wrinkle of the earth. Las Cárcavas are a natural monument of towers sculpted by rain and wind over time.
After the Carcavas, we will head to a viewpoint over the Lozoya river. And will then get down to the Lozoya river valley and walk along the river for several kms until we end up again in the Ponton de la Oliva old dam.

DIFFICULTY: Medium.
The hike in general terms is medium. The only challenging and tricky part is the way out from las Carcavas, which can be difficult. But hopefully we will find our way out safe and sound ;)
Time of the route between 6-6,5 hours depending how long we want to stay in Las Carcavas and what the group pace is.
➡ HOW TO GET THERE:
🕑 We are MEETING at 9:15h in Patones de Abajo, at bar Manolo https://g.co/kgs/eC5ehxi.
The hike will start about 9:40 from El Pontón de la Oliva old dam.
🚗 We will try to allocate everyone in the available cars. Nearest parking lot is here:

🚌 However, there is a bus leaving from Plaza de Castilla at 8:00 on Saturday that will stop at Patones at 9:15. In case there are not enough cars available for everyone, we can pick you up from Patones and drive you to the Ponton de la Oliva.
Final arrangaments will be made on the day before once we know how many cars are available.
➡ WHAT TO BRING
Hiking shoes or mountain boots. Trail running sneakers are ok as well.
A small backpack for your stuff.
1,5L of water or other soft drinks per person.
Your lunch. A snack will be provided.
Sunscreen & sunglasses
A hat or a cap.
A fleece or warm sweatshirt.
A light windproof jacket if you have one it is recommended.

We expect to be back at Plaza de Castilla around 18:30. This expected time is approximated since hiking depends on the group's pace and any other circumstances that might arise along the hike.
