AI Salon: Trustworthy AI Futures [SF]
Theme: AI as normal technology. Reading link HERE
Some provocations for our discussion!
If AI is just “normal technology,” what specific existing institutions (regulatory agencies, liability law, market forces) should shoulder primary responsibility for safety—and what radical new bodies or doctrines suddenly look unnecessary or even harmful?
History shows transformative tech only reshapes society once adoption and diffusion hurdles fall; so is today’s existential-risk discourse a strategic distraction that pulls talent, capital, and regulation away from the real bottleneck: helping people, firms, and laws actually absorb AI over decades?
Assuming AI’s median future is continuous and controllable rather than a fast superintelligence takeoff, which long-term risk becomes our true nightmare: catastrophic misalignment—or the much likelier slow grind of unequal diffusion, runaway inequality, and institutional ossification?
ℹ️ This monthly series focuses on AI Safety and its associated disciplines (e.g., AI governance & Policy, AI ethics, trustworthy AI, scalable oversight). We will dive deep into one topic each gathering, bringing our diverse perspectives together. This event is geared towards people who professionally engage with Trustworthy AI in some form.
🍜 Following the main event we will continue the conversation over dinner nearby!

The Ai Salon is a community founded in San Francisco focused on intimate, small-sized group discussions on the sociological, economic, cultural, and philosophical impacts and meaning of AI developments. We host small group discussions, all of which you can find on our calendar. You can find summaries of our previous conversations on our substack.
We wait until the week before the event to approve guests and cannot approve everyone due to space constraints. If you aren't approved we hope to see you at another event! Please show up on time so that conversations can flow smoothly.
