Forest and Friends - November 21st, 2024
One year ago, a few brave souls met in the autumn darkness to talk about startups, technology, and forests. 12 months later we’re still at it and ready to take on the next year’s immense challenges around protecting our forests, friends, and climate. On November 21st, from 4:30-7 at Cascadia Pizza in Bellevue (https://www.cascadiapizzaco.com/bellevue) we’ll start that journey together, please come and join us for good conversation, beverages and food, and with friendship and support for the work and challenges we know are coming in the next year.
The image here looks artificial, far too regular to be real, but this is the result of a study started 32 years ago to explore the effects of planting density on the growth of giant sequoia. These three papers describe the results over that time span, and going forward these juveniles will participate in other science (most immediately, Rx fire treatment intensity studies – as these are very fire resilient trees).

This will also be a great session to touch base on how to keep climate concerns centered in the next few years of your work. We remember the disruption of the last cycle and can expect significant chunks of the environmental and forestry landscape to change rapidly from a policy perspective. The natural truth to keep in mind during these times is that these trees will outlast our temporary disruptions and find a way to keep putting in their work as long as they are still able. Seeking that resilience together. I’ll be wearing a hardhat and cruising vest – please walk right up and join our table!
