About Event

Welcome to another episode of the Techmeme Ride Home Experience β€” this time we're going down the NFT rabbit hole!

We discussed the NFT hype earlier this year (see: Are NFTs bad for artists? and the Roblox Debut with a mention of Beeple, etc), but it seems to have reached a fever pitch with growing momentum this week.

In fact, here's a Venn diagram of NFT content (in black) compared with all other content in my Twitter timeline recentlyΒΉ:

After Brian minted the first NFT of a podcast episode back in March (several editions are still for sale!), the space has exploded and we wanted to dig in and better understand why now, what's been going on recently, and how all this activity is likely to continue to play out. Is this the big shift to the promiseland of the decentralized web β€” with social and commerce built in from the ground floor? β€” or is this a speculator's paradise careening towards a Wile E Coyote-style cliff jump?

To find out, we'll be joined by Jackson Dame (who just priced a Divine Robe of Power for 300Ξ in the Loot Project), @SHL0MS (who just minted shattered pieces of a toilet) and other special guests (fingers crossed 🀞🏻 that Gaby Goldberg from Bessemer will make a cameo) to discuss this and more.

Notes about The Techmeme Ride Home Experience

The co-hosts of this show are Brian McCullough and Chris Messina. It is hosted three out of four Wednesdays a month at 6pm PST/9pm EST on Twitter Spaces. Since the space is recorded and published as a podcast following the event, we tend to be conservative about opening up the floor to attendees. You're more than welcome to raise your hand, but we will rarely spontaneously bring folks up. This is intended to keep the momentum of the show flowing.

We often pin tweets to the "nest" at the top of a Twitter Space as reference or to share context, so keep your eyes peeled there.

We encourage the use of emoji reactions throughout. πŸ˜‚

The recording of this event will be published following the event to Techmeme Podcast feed.
