HRF x PubKey: Bitcoin as a Tool to Fight Financial Repression in Autocracies 🔥✊
Each month, the Human Rights Foundation and PubKey dive into specific HRF initiatives with a focus on how bitcoin and freedom tech advance humanitarian goals.
We're thrilled to partner with HRF to shine a light on how bitcoin is a powerful force for peace and human flourishing.
On Thursday, April 17th, we're honored to host an incredible voice from the frontlines of the fight for freedom in Nicaragua: Berta Valle.
Berta is a Nicaraguan journalist, human rights activist, and vocal critic of the Daniel Ortega regime. She’s married to pro-democracy activist and former presidential candidate, Félix Maradiaga, who was imprisoned in an unprecedented crackdown on the opposition prior to the 2021 elections. Valle has worked tirelessly to bring international attention to the plight of political prisoners in Nicaragua. Her activism played a pivotal role in the release of her husband and more than 200 other political prisoners in 2023. Now living in exile, she continues to advocate for the restoration of democracy and the liberation of the rest of the political prisoners.
She will be joined by Arsh Molu, Financial Freedom operations lead at HRF to share her story and illustrate how decentralized tech can empower those fighting for their basic rights. They'll be diving into the harsh realities of oppression, the resilience of the Nicaraguan people, and how, in the face of financial lockdown, bitcoin is becoming a lifeline—a tool for bypassing censorship and delivering much-needed aid.
We will begin at 4:30 PM with PubKey Spaces on X – join us!
