


Compost Party with Cassandra Marketos!
🤙 About Event
Food starts with soil. Soil is the foundation for growing food. As part of 2nd Annual LA Climate Week, we’re hosting a Compost Party to enrich the soil of our community garden accross the street from Echo Park Lake! Enjoy a fun interactive game called "You Can Compost, THAT??!" with community composter expert, Cassandra Marketos followed by a closing ceremony and mocktails.
👟 What to Bring & Wear:
Gloves will be provided for all volunteers.
Wear comfortable, close-toed shoes—you'll want to walk around.
Dress casual and comfortably as gardens are filled with things that can get you a little dirty. Layers are recommended!
Bring your own refillable water bottle to stay hydrated
Bring your own reusable bag there is lots of citrus and fresh, nutritious food in the garden that you'll be invited to enjoy! 🍋

To kick off the Food Sustainability Track of LA Climate Week, Seeds of Hope, Climate Designers, and From Soil to Soul have collaborated for a day of creativity and action focused on cultivating healthy soil to create healthy food, healthy people, and healthy communities. 🙌 Event Hosts
Seeds of Hope cultivates wellness and food justice by helping communities reconnect with fresh, healthy food. We distribute more than 70,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables weekly, establish community gardens, and provide education on gardening, composting, healthy cooking, and food preservation to increase nutrition and minimize food waste.
Cassandra Marketos is a Los Angeles-based compost artist, writer, and community volunteer. She works with neighbors to gather food waste before it goes to landfills; to build and maintain composts; and to share insights on the ways rot sustains life. S Her book, aptly titled Compost This Book is is an ideal companion for people interested in getting started with composting and includes instructions for composting the book itself to complete its lifecycle..
Climate Designers is a global design community hub for creative professionals from all industries, committed to supporting designers to be climate leaders everywhere they work. We empower designers to learn, connect, and act on climate solutions to actively co-create a just and regenerative world.
From Soil to Soul is a documentary series and community initiative focused on restoring food sovereignty, created by a diverse team of filmmakers, farmers, and environmental advocates determined to change the food system for good.
