About Event

Mods on Reddit and other platforms for online communities are the unpaid "custodians of the Internet" who volunteer hours to keep forum conversations on topic and non-toxic. They frequently turn to auto-moderation to help them clean up rule-breaking posts, but those "auto-mods" can be frustrating to well-intended users who may have unknowingly broken a rule. Enter "Post Guidance", a tool that aims to give users in-time feedback and a chance to course correct. But does it work? Are users less frustrated, and does it make mods' lives easier?

Join us for a conversation with Manoel Horta Ribeiro who tested Post Guidance in collaboration with Reddit and mods from thirty three subreddits, each who tailored the tool to their needs. We'll talk about his findings and about the promise for in-time feedback tools for creating healthier online spaces. We look forward to you being part of the conversation!

About Pro-Socials: Pro-Socials are informal meet-ups, where technologists and researchers can learn from - and inspire - each other around understanding and integrating prosocial design. Each Pro-Social includes a motivating question, conversation with experts and break-out convos where you can meet like-minded technologists (designers, product managers, entrepreneurs and trust & safety professionals) and researchers to share insights and begin to co-create new knowledge together.

In partnership with the Council on Technology and Social Cohesion.
