Color in Motion Private Viewing with Dr Barbara Flueckiger
We are excited to invite you to a unique opportunity to attend the exhibition of the year—Color in Motion—at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, guided by one of its creators, Dr. Barbara Flueckiger.
From hand-tinted silent films to modern digital production, Color in Motion explores the essential role color has played in shaping cinematic landscapes and narratives. This exhibition delves into the power of color as a filmmaking tool, the science and technology behind it, and its profound physical and psychological impact on audiences.
The story is brought to life through dynamic film clips, photographs, posters, production cels, color charts, and iconic costumes and props—such as the costume worn by Kim Novak in Vertigo. The exhibit also highlights the often-overlooked contributions women made to the history of film colors, from laborious hand-coloring and stenciling to their work in Disney’s ink and paint department.
An immersive experience awaits with interactive installations, including a hands-on “color arcade” where visitors can move their bodies to activate and create colors in motion.
Don’t miss this fascinating exploration of color’s history and impact in film!
