Versions of Self: A Fashion Identity Workshop
This is about the art and psychology of fashion and self-expression. We will explore the intersection of identity, clothing, and presence - creating a space where the ritual of dressing becomes a celebration of personal transformation. This is for people who feel a strong tie to physical expression via clothes and would appreciate a witness for the journey. This experience is a practice.
We will touch a bit on the intellectual and emotional aspects of expression. We will have some eye gazing and movement exercises, to explore the connection between attire and identity.
We strongly encourage you to bring your outfit/fashion element to wear / and wear it. There are washrooms in the space to change in, if needed.
Here’s an example to add colour to what we mean when combining fashion/psychology/identity: A participant who was assigned female at birth struggled with wearing feminine clothes. Through experimentation, they later discovered an appreciation for traditionally women's clothing. Creating a safe space to practice wearing these clothes unlocked new facets of their identity they hadn't previously recognized.
