Special Guest: Paul Matsudaira
Over the past 25 years, Paul Matsudaira has built strong links between Cambridge and Singapore. In 1999 as a Biology and Bioengineering Professor at MIT and the Whitehead Institute, Paul first traveled to Singapore to examine the undergraduate Biology Honor students at NUS. Then in 2004 he co-directed the SMA2 PhD program in Computational and Systems Biology, a joint PhD between MIT, NUS, and NTU. In 2007, Paul spent a sabbatical to help start SMART 's Infectious Disease Program. After 24 years at MIT, in 2009, he moved to Singapore to establish the Centre for BioImaging Sciences, head the Department of Biological Sciences, and co-found the Mechanobiology Institute. Now an Emeritus Professor at NUS, he returned to Boston at the on-set of the COVID pandemic and co-founded Paratus Sciences, a biotech company that leverages insights from bat biology with labs in New York City and Singapore. In addition to Paratus, Paul also co-founded the forerunner to ANDE, a DNA forensics company.
