About Event

How do we conduct meaningful UX research when building new AI products?
How can UX researchers integrate AI tools to stay relevant and truly elevate their practice?

R9. Berlin UX Research Community, together with Grammarly, is hosting a special AI-focused meetup.

💬 Our two speakers are going to explore the intersection of UX research and AI from different angles:

Valerie Vegera, Senior UX Researcher at Grammarly, will share how to conduct research that drives the development of exciting, AI-powered tools.

Sonal Malhotra, User Research Lead at Klarna, will offer a candid look into the practical realities of using AI in user research today.

AI for UX, UX for AI is not just one more AI meetup, but a grounded, focused look from a user research perspective. Whether you're in product, marketing, or design, this event will give you real, applicable insights.

About the talks

🪄 From Novelty to Necessity: Building AI for Real Human Needs 🪄

Valerie Vegera, Senior Researcher at Grammarly, invites you to discover how AI is evolving from a novel curiosity to an indispensable partner in people's daily workflows. In this session, we’ll explore the blueprint for designing AI experiences that move beyond the hype, grounding them in real human needs and integrating seamlessly into the ways people actually work. Learn practical strategies for creating AI experiences that are not just "exciting," but truly necessary.

🛠️ Using AI for qualitative research: My experience, pros, cons and lessons learned 🛠️

In this talk, Sonal Malhotra, User Research Lead at Klarna, will be sharing her personal journey of using AI in qualitative user research:

What’s worked, what hasn’t, and where I believe the real value lies.

As someone who has spent years uncovering user insights manually, I was initially both excited and skeptical about the promises of AI. Now having used some of the tools, I have seen how they can speed up analysis, surface themes, and free up time for more strategic thinking.

However, AI isn’t a magic fix. I will also talk about the challenges I’ve faced - from losing nuance to the risk of over-relying on automation in a space that’s inherently human and contextual.
