About Event

Interested in leftist Jewish history? Wondering how previous generations have embraced their Jewishness within the diaspora? Join us for a conversation about the International Jewish Labor Bund, a working class movement which rose to popularity in Poland and Eastern Europe during the late 19th/early 20th century and is currently being revived today in 2024.

The Bund rose to prominence at the same time as the Zionist movement and had a diametrically opposed vision for how Jewish communities should be construed and how they should relate to their non-Jewish neighbors.

Lead organizers from the Chicagoland Jewish Labor Bund and Sokoły Chicago will be leading a teach-in and discussion about some of this history; a history which has almost deliberately been hidden from many of us. Afterward, there will be time to socialize, nosh, enjoy music from local Polish and Jewish musicians, and most importantly build the solidarity we need to survive and keep each other safe.

This event is hosted by the Chicagoland Jewish Labor Bund and Sokoły Chicago. You need not be Jewish or Polish to attend! All are welcome.
