🗳MVP Battleground House Party!
We know when communities of color and young people vote, we win.
Tuesday night’s debate still has many of us shaken, swinging between livid and sad, despair and anger at the idea of white supremacy being elevated yet again by this president, the post-debate incitement and excitement among Proud Boys supporters — and what effect invoking the threat of violence at the polls might have on turnout next month.
It reinforces the urgency of the question: What can we do in this fight to make sure votes aren’t suppressed? Like you, I’ve been asking what more now beyond text and phone banking, writing, talking, advocating, and giving however much we can to campaigns, especially in battleground races.
It’s why I’m beyond grateful for the Movement Voter Project, an organization where we can invest our dollars in targeted fundraising efforts in the communities that need the most outreach over the next month.
Join us on Zoom on Saturday at 1pm PT / 4PM ET, October 3rd — one month from Election Day, the close to early voting! — to learn about MVP and what you can do to support.
MVP identifies and funds the grassroots orgs already working inside of communities that are the most vulnerable — trusted partners on the ground working to raise democratic voice and secure community member votes in a time when distrust of existing systems is very real.
I believe MVP has the capacity-building power to touch and talk to voters we aren’t going to reach with standard campaigns and our pandemic-era outreach of texting, calling or writing postcards.
By focusing specifically on BIPOC, New American, veteran, and youth communities in battleground states, MVP shifts electoral power to Americans who have historically been denied access to the ballot box; and are often also disenfranchised, thanks to the inequity gaps in our country that define all of our wildly different experiences voting.
I’m excited to support MVP knowing 100% of the money we raise will go directly to the grassroots organizations supported by MVP’s Big 5 Battleground Fund.
Saturday, we’ll have music and motivation, a presentation to our group of friends about how and why MVP’s approach and system are so effective, including perspectives from LA Forward’s David Levitus and other hosts for why we believe in MVP and are matching your donations.
And if that day or time doesn't work for you, please do check out MVP's social and site, where you can learn about the organization and give. Excited to give you my take on the Zoom and really, anytime that works for you!
In the meantime, do register here for a reminder, do commit to sharing and do show up, especially if you haven’t given this campaign season.
Fund local organizing. Win elections. Build power that lasts. (Even in a pandemic!)
