Ember is powered by our partnership with ARIA, and is designed to support exceptional scientists and innovators across the UK in exploring Big If True ideas: bold, early-stage R&D concepts that, if validated, could have transformative impact within or adjacent to ARIA’s opportunity spaces.
Ember addresses a critical gap in the UK’s R&D landscape by providing funding (£50K over 6 months, with the potential for a £50K extension for a total of 12 months), mentorship, and structured support to help participants move frontier science beyond the lab and into the world. The programme empowers them to develop proof-of-concept outputs, explore translational pathways, and contribute meaningfully to emerging areas of science and innovation.
Participants will also take part in the Horizon Study Group, a 12-month focused initiative identifying beyond-the-cutting-edge opportunities for R&D, and gain early exposure to the culture and direction of ARIA’s ecosystem, helping shape and expand opportunity spaces like Math for Safe AI, Bioenergetic Engineering, Smarter Robot Bodies, and more.
