About Event

Predicting human behaviour is a crucial yet unsolved challenge, as intuition often replaces data in decision-making, due to a lack of accurate tools. Mind Hacks, Electric Twin’s Hackathon, challenges participants to apply machine learning to real-world problems by focusing on one of several industry tracks:

  • Trafficking: Current methods for addressing animal trafficking are fragmented and reactive, but we can leverage social media conversations to help detect misinformation, understand traffickers' online tactics, and inform targeted awareness campaigns.

  • Food Waste: Modern food waste, costing UK households £17 billion annually, stems from undervaluing food and cultural and behavioural shifts. We can use survey data to identify drivers and develop innovative solutions or policies to reduce waste.

  • Education: AI could automate 20-40% of teacher tasks, potentially saving up to 13 hours per week for meaningful student engagement. Edtech presents opportunities to address teacher workload in England and indeed forms a central part of government plans to reduce it, and tackle the recruitment and retention crisis. We want to identify methods or build tools to encourage teachers to embrace AI and EdTech as workload-reducing tools.

  • Housing: Community opposition to new housing developments significantly delays supply, contributing to the UK's housing shortage and affordability crisis. This opposition stems from concerns about environmental impact, infrastructure strain, and changes to neighbourhood character. We can analyse data from planning application feedback, survey data, community forums, and social media to understand the drivers of opposition.

Expect speeches from industry leading professionals and networking opportunities with attendees from companies revolutionising the AI space.
