About Event

These monthly meet-ups are for sharing new ideas, experiments, events and more. Each month there will be one-word theme.

This month that theme is Convening.

It will be stewarded by John V Willshire.

Convening
verb, adjective
Come or bring together for a meeting or activity; assemble.

Back in the early days of the STEPS Collective, and as the Regenerative Design Field Kit was being worked up, we started paying particular attention to Connecting and Convening, one of the four roles as set out in the Design Council's Systematic Design Framework:

It can often feel like the least (capital D) Designerly role of the four. Convening is certainly something many people do on a regular basis, whether they call themselves 'Designers' or not. How many 'Designers' might consider convening a formal part of their profession?

But if anything, STEPS is a (small-d) design meetup; people who want to change something, and are looking around for inspiration on where to start.

Therefore, given our explorations with The STEPS Collective, as well as other related activities in the community, we wanted to deepen an exploration around convening.

We will all tell some stories to each other about when convening has worked, when it hasn't, and what we learned as a result.

------

The STEPS Collective is a community of regenerative practice that exists to help Show The Easy Place to Start (aka STEPS) through sharing provocations that get people thinking, feeling, doing and making in the regenerative space.

Our community stewards are currently Dr. Rob Phillips, Esther Hayes Grossman, Lizzie Shupak, Andy Thornton and John V Willshire.
