About Event

🎉Join us for a day dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacy of Tenth Street Historic District.

In the tradition of a quilting bee, we’ll gather to piece together our story — sharing memories and envisioning the best possible future for the Tenth Street Historic District.

Through discussions, workshops, and activities, we aim to celebrate Tenth Street Historic District’s legacy as a vibrant hub of Black arts, heritage, and culture, while collaboratively shaping its future as a cultural heritage destination.

If Tenth Street Could Talk is a community-driven documentary project that chronicles the history, living memory, and perspectives of Tenth Street descendants through oral history interviews, archival and genealogical research, GIS mapping, digital storytelling, film, and art. The project follows descendants and residents as they work tirelessly to preserve the historic Freedom Colony's history and fight to have a voice in shaping the future of their community.

This Library of Congress funded project is a collaboration between Remembering Black Dallas, kinkofa, Tenth Street Residential Association, and the Dallas Public Library.
