About Event

Is New York getting safer, and for whom?
The city’s violent crime rate is down, but many New Yorkers still don’t feel safe. Others feel overpoliced and underprotected, navigating a justice system that often seems to fail them twice.

At this 50+ person Unmuted salon, we’ll dig into the tensions between safety and justice, race and enforcement, and perception vs. data. From stop-and-frisk to shoplifting laws to neighborhood patrol funding, the fault lines are local and personal. What kind of safety do we want and what are we willing to trade for it?
