About Event

Are you planning to apply for the Canada Postdoctoral Research Award (CPRA) under the SSHRC mandate?

The Postdoctoral Office is pleased to host a focused online information session designed to support both postdoctoral scholars preparing their applications and faculty supervisors guiding them through the process.

This session will provide:

  • An overview of the CPRA application process

  • Insights from current fellowship recipients, supervisors, and peer review committee members

  • Guidance on evaluation criteria and common pitfalls

  • Practical tips for writing a strong and competitive application.

Panelists and Contributions:

  • Brittany Lindsay
    Current SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship Holder
    Brittany will share her personal experience navigating the SSHRC application process. She will speak about how she developed her application strategy, what she focused on during the writing process, how she approached selecting and working with referees, and the key lessons she learned along the way.

  • Dr. Sheri Madigan
    Professor, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts

  • Dr. Oluwabukola Salami
    Professor, Department of Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine.

    Dr. Salami and Dr. Madigan will share insights from a supervisor’s perspective, focusing on best practices for mentoring postdoctoral applicants, guiding the development of compelling research proposals, and completing the Research Appraisal Form. They will highlight how supervisors can offer meaningful and strategic support throughout the SSHRC application process.

  • Dr. Nancy Janovicek
    Professor, Department of History, Faculty of Arts; Chair, SSHRC Review Committee (History; Classics; Classical Archaeology; Philosophy; Mediaeval Studies; Religious Studies)

    Drawing on her experience as a review committee chair, Dr. Janovicek will provide an insider’s view of the SSHRC evaluation process. She will discuss how reviewers assess proposals, common strengths and weaknesses in applications, and tips for aligning submissions with SSHRC’s expectations and evaluation criteria.
