Climate Strides SF: A Run/Walk "Panel" for Climate Action
Come run or walk with us and geek out on climate solutions! Free and open to all!
As a kick off to SF Climate Week, come join us in Golden Gate Park on Sunday, April 20th at 4pm. We are meeting on Pioneer East Meadow (pin is above) - the meadow closest to the Nature Conservancy art piece, the piano, and the Whale sculpture on JFK. Keep an eye out for our Climate Strides banner at the gathering spot.
The event is designed to "break the panel" - we will get outside together, hear speakers from across the climate space and beyond, and create a community of like-minded individuals together at SF Climate Week. Most of all, we will expand our thinking around climate solutions, and do it in a way that feels accessible to everyone.
The "pace" is extremely chill* - we leave no one behind, no matter the speed, while fostering dialogue around climate solutions. There will be a running group option and a walking group option.
Periodically, we will stop and hear from someone in the climate space for a few minutes - their work, their "aha" moment and their hopes for the future (both runners and walkers will get to hear each speaker). In between speakers, we'll continue the run/walk where you will meet new people and discuss what you just heard.
After the event, we will plan to gather on the Meadow for happy hour/celebratory NA beers from Best Day brewing and to keep the conversations going!
*We encourage folks with a specific workout in mind to run either before or after the event, seeing this as a community warm-up/cool-down! And please note, there will be no bag drop option, so plan to wear/carry what you need to be comfortable depending on the weather.
TRAVELLING TO THE LOCATION
Travelling from downtown by public transport to the Pioneer East Meadow in Golden Gate Park, the Muni #5 or #5R buses and the N-Judah light rail are great options. The #5 bus drops off closest to the Meadow at Fulton St/Park Presidio on the north side of the park. The N-Judah drops off two blocks south of the park at Judah & 19th Avenue, 0.8 miles from the Meadow.
In the park itself, the closest public transportation is the free Golden Gate Park shuttle (https://sfrecpark.org/1617/Golden-Gate-Park-Free-Shuttle), which offers access to the eastern half of the park. The shuttle has stops along JFK Drive at the Rose Garden and at the Blue Heron Lake boathouse parking lot and pick up stops near the #7 and #33 buses (Haight & Stanyan), #44 bus (Music Concourse), #5 and #5R (Fulton & 8th/10th Avenue). The shuttle runs until 6PM every 15 minutes on weekends until 6PM.
For Uber/Lyft, it's probably best to get dropped off at the Blue Heron Boathouse. There is parking around Blue Heron Lake Dr and along Martin Luther King Jr Drive, but given that Sundays are popular in the park (especially on 4/20), we would recommend public transport.
MORE ABOUT WTCTA
Where The Climate Things Are is a media series working to build an inclusive climate movement in the outdoor community. There is so much incredible work and experience in all corners of our world of outdoor enthusiasts, and if I’ve learned one thing in my time studying and working on environmental issues, it’s that sharing positive, solutions-oriented stories and personal experiences is often the biggest unlock to encouraging broader environmental action. We don’t do doomsday, guilt or shame here -- we uplift solutions-oriented work, talk about existing issues and challenges, and discuss where we need to go, together.
