Monica Wat: Fairylights Songtrail — EP Launch Gig (with Opening Guest Cat Rose)
Hailing from Hong Kong, Monica Wat is a UK-based singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist who fuses her storytelling lyricism with an ethereal sonic palette, drawing from her lifelong literature background and lived experiences of migration, identity, social justices, love & losses. Her self-directed and produced music videos 'Rose Gold', 'Memories, Linger' and short film 'ASSIMILATION' (selected by the British Film Institute for the UK-wide SCREEN programme) will be screened during the show too.
With Monica's love for books and stories, it is no surprise that her first-ever headline show – Fairylights Songtrail – has found a home at the cosy, charming Morocco Bound Bookshop not far from London Bridge.
Having performed solo sets at a wide range of venues internationally including Bristol Beacon's reopening event, Trinity Centre's Garden Party, cafes in Seoul and the streets of Hong Kong, Monica is ready to embark on a new musical chapter in London. Join her on an intimate, acoustic journey of indie folk-pop songs from her debut Extended Play 'Fairylights', upcoming Youth Music-funded EP 'Gaslight' and future debut album.
Monica will also be joined by opening guest Cat Rose, an emerging singer-songwriter, folk musician based in Plymouth. Cat creates well-crafted storytelling songs that connect with people from all walks of life. She has been nominated as the final three of Plymouth Laureate of Words. Cat was a student of the Rebels Music programme at the Barbican Theatre, and was recently runner-up in the South West Heat of the UK Unsigned competition. Cat was one of 34 musicians across the UK to be awarded Youth Music’s Next Gen Fund as well. Her debut solo EP 'Waste Land' is out now!
Tea, coffee and drinks will be available for purchase at the bookshop. Special merchandise designed by Monica will be shared with those in attendance as well, and you may just be one of the lucky listeners who get a gift!
