Decarbonizing shipping emissions with CO2 capture | Dr Juliana Monteiro, TNO
Join us on September 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM for an enlightening session on "Decarbonizing Shipping Emissions with CO2 Capture," hosted by Professor Dawid Hanak. This event will feature Dr. Juliana Monteiro from TNO, who will delve into the integration of carbon capture technologies into the exhaust gas treatment units of ships.
Dr. Monteiro will share insights from a recent demonstration campaign conducted on-board, comparing these findings with land-based carbon capture efforts. Key topics will include solvent lifetime and the emission of degradation products, providing a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this field.
About the speaker
Dr. Juliana Monteiro is a senior scientist at the Energy and Materials Transition unit of TNO in the Netherlands. With over a decade of experience in CO2 capture technologies, she has played a pivotal role in projects like the AVR Duiven, which captures 60,000 tonnes of CO2 annually from a waste-to-energy plant. Her mission is to accelerate the adoption of CO2 capture across various industries, amplifying its positive impact on the environment.
Juliana holds a PhD from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where she specialized in developing novel solvents for CO2 capture. She currently leads the work package on the demonstration of ship-based CO2 capture (SBCC) for the EverLoNG project. This international research initiative aims to promote the use of SBCC on LNG-fueled ships, bringing the technology closer to market readiness.
