The 16 steps of the Ānāpānasati Sutta, which form the core of this course, are divided into four main sections:

  1. Mindfulness of the Body (Steps 1-4): Learn to develop concentration and body awareness by focusing on the breath and calming bodily formations.

  2. Mindfulness of Feelings (Steps 5-8): Cultivate acceptance and equanimity by observing and understanding the nature of feelings, both pleasant and unpleasant, and learning to let go of attachment to them.

  3. Mindfulness of the Mind (Steps 9-12): Develop greater awareness of mental states, learning to recognize and work skillfully with thoughts, emotions, and habitual patterns. Cultivate joy, concentration, and the ability to release the mind from negativity.

  4. Mindfulness of Dhammas (Steps 13-16): Gain insight into the fundamental truths of existence, such as impermanence, non-attachment, and the path to liberation. Learn to let go of clinging, awaken to the true nature of phenomena, and experience profound peace and freedom.
