Improv Comedy

• 對戲劇表演和喜劇創作去魅,在和夥伴的配合和歡笑中輸出自己的生命體驗和女權表達;

The first-ever Queer Feminist Improv Comedy Workshop in New York is now open for registration!

Event Introduction

In recent years, more and more female and queer stand-up comedy performances have entered the public eye. Due to their rich life experiences, the comedic expressions of women and queers are full of challenges to mainstream narratives, showcasing the power of communities to occupy public discourse.

However, feminist and queer improv comedy is still an unpolished gem.

Improv comedy, a theatrical form that originated in the streets of Italy and has become popular in the U.S., has traditionally been dominated by white actors and Western mainstream culture. Because improv requires collaboration with partners, it is ideal for comedy beginners with no prior experience. It offers the joy of creating comedy in collaboration.
Therefore, Cool Girls invites you to join the Queer Feminist Improv Comedy Workshop with no barriers to entry, where we will create comedy narratives for feminist and queer voices in minority communities together!

What you will gain from the workshop:

• Learn how to use improv comedy tools to practice occupying space and self-empowerment;
• Practice supporting and assisting your partners through improv comedy, creating space for them;
• Demystify theatrical performance and comedy creation, sharing your life experiences and feminist expressions through collaboration and laughter with your partners;
• Explore and reflect on self-hatred and biases internalized through heteronormative and patriarchal systems during the creative process;
• Learn how to co-create queer and feminist comedy stories with your partners.

Opportunity to produce feminist queer sketch comedy together and perform.
