About Event

How do you write the unspeakable? What happens when the stories we need to tell defy traditional form?

Erica Stern’s debut memoir, Frontier, is part ghost story, part medical reckoning, and part exploration of what it means to cross the threshold into motherhood. In luminous, experimental prose, Stern weaves together personal narrative, historical research, and fiction to tell a harrowing and beautiful story about birth, transformation, and survival.

Join us for a Q&A with Erica as we dive into the process of writing hybrid nonfiction, experimenting with form, and crafting genre-bending memoir.

We’ll explore:

  • The creative freedom (and challenge) of hybrid forms

  • How to braid research, memory, and imagination

  • Writing about the body and experiences that resist language

  • Erica’s journey to publication and her advice for genre-defying writers
