Community Picnic for WAC Seattle's First Birthday
WAC Seattle launched in July 2023 and our community has grown so much already! Join us to celebrate our first birthday and a successful year of community building in support of Women and Climate Action within the Seattle area!
What to Expect:
Casual gathering of Women and Nonbinary folks passionate about climate change with a potluck style picnic. The event will be unstructured for informal conversation and outdoor activities. There will be some optional outdoor games and interactive art as well as lots of shade, fresh air and good vibes.
We’re bound to be a hungry bunch - please bring a shareable food / drink (or two if you're feeling generous!). Let us know what you’re bringing on this spreadsheet.
This is a casual event in a public park, so you can come and go at your leisure.
What to Bring:
Food / Beverages to share: Please bring shareable food or beverages. Please label your dish with ingredients and any allergens, if possible! Not sure what to bring? Look at this spreadsheet for some inspiration. Not able to bring something to share? No sweat, we'd still love to have you!
Plates/Utensils/Cups/Tupperware: Bring your own reusable plates/bowls, utensils, cups and water bottles. We will have a few spare paper plates and single-use utensils but help us cut down our waste by bringing your reusables from home. Don't forget your tupperware in case there are leftovers!!
Something to Sit on: Blankets and/or chairs are welcome to help make for a comfy picnic experience. We will have several but the more the merrier.
Outdoor Activities: It's Seattle Summer so we are all in on the fun - have an outdoor game, craft or other activity you want to do with the group? Bring it along! Frisbee, spike ball & bocce to be provided, other activities are encouraged.
Where to Find Us:
We will be hosting the picnic in Green Lake Park (which is pretty big). Here is an approximate pin of where we’ll be set up. We’ll be just NW of the pickleball courts in the open grassy area (where there is lots of shade) and a view of the water. The closest house number on the street is 7440 East Green Lake Dr N. For our map experts out there the coordinates are 47°40'56.0"N 122°19'45.4"W .
When you arrive, look for people in iridescent party hats - these WAC leaders will officially check you into the event!
Transportation:
Recommend taking the Light Rail to the Roosevelt stop. If you're driving then we recommend carpooling and parking in the Green Lake Public Parking Lot.
Who is invited:
This event is for those identifying as women or nonbinary. We occasionally have events for other friends and allies so if that is not how you identify, stay tuned for future events.
What is Women And Climate?
Women and Climate (WAC) is a non-profit creating a joyful and safe space for more women to learn and talk about climate. Global WAC members commune at in-person events in over 50 cities across the world and virtually through a Slack community and online events. All women and non-binary individuals are welcome to join our community, no climate experience necessary. This event is hosted by the WAC Seattle Chapter, which was launched in July 2023 and regularly organizes local in-person events and occasional virtual sessions for our Greater Seattle Area Community!
