Designing chips has traditionally been limited to those with access to expensive tools and specialist training. The most recent silicon processes require huge up-front investment in NRE and engineering time.
Custom chips can increase innovation, reduce costs, reduce bill of materials, and accelerate data processing. Open source tooling is now bringing this capability to anyone.
Traditional players are pushed to extremely costly cutting edge manufacturing processes by competition. Over 80% of product needs can be fulfilled in the most cost efficient way by using 10 year old processes with lower upfront costs.
ChipFlow is utilising the Open Source Hardware ecosystem to deliver a platform-as-a-service for chip design. Designers will be able to build and test an IC on their laptop, then use our platform to order test chips and production runs without the pain of dealing with a foundry directly.
By using a Python based hardware description language, ChipFlow can expand the pool of engineering talent to include software engineers.
