About Event

‘Metaphors encourage us to be daring, to think freely and with novelty.’ - Gillie Bolton, paraphrasing David Deshler

Join Kate McBarron as she invites you to explore the unexpressed and enrich your writing through metaphors.

Kate is a writer, tutor and therapeutic writing practitioner. A decade ago, her relationship with words was transformed when she came across the world of ‘writing for wellbeing’. Now, she helps others to make their own journeys of self-discovery and self-expression using a non-judgmental approach to writing.

In ‘Playing With Metaphors’, you’ll get the chance to develop new and rich imagery to use in your own writing. Metaphors can be hugely powerful tools for communication. Abstract ideas suddenly become more tangible. Complex experiences can be conveyed through just one image. And metaphors offer a sense of safety too – through them we can express personal and emotional concepts from a safe distance.

As part of the ‘Reckoning’ phase of Foster’s current season, this session will empower you to find new perspectives in your life and writing. You will:

· Uncover metaphors and imagery that resonate with your own experiences

· Play with ideas through free writing, sentence stems and poetic form

· Discuss and discover other people’s powerful metaphors
