About Event

Back By Request!!!

Join in this event if you're keen to try Square Dancing. Think of this as a fun experiment in group coordination. This session is LessRational than the last, but it does remain an opportunity to engage in the most mathematical dance form ever created in the history of Earth.

Why square dancing? Because it's:

  • Perfectly deterministic (until it isn't)

  • Requires zero prior experience

  • Creates order from chaos through simple, learnable patterns

  • Builds physical confidence through predictable structures

  • Is fundamentally collaborative

This is an exploration of how simple rules create complex beauty and how minds and bodies can learn to work in harmony.

Bring: Comfortable shoes, curiosity, and a willingness to update your expectations about what you think you’re capable of.

Details:

  • Date: Sunday, April 6th 2025

  • Time: 2:45 PM - 5:00 PM

There will be light vegetarian friendly snacks at this event. Please bring a reusable water bottle (if you can) for water.

Our Caller for the event will be Marge Coahran! She started square dancing in September 2014 with the Toronto Triangle Squares. She attended her first caller school in July 2016, and she currently teaches the second level (Plus) class for Triangle Squares. Marge enjoys square dancing and calling because of the fun, the friends, and the intricate choreographic patterns. She is a member of the Toronto and District Square and Round Dance Association (T&D) and the Gay Callers Association (GCA). She was the fly-in committee chair for Triangle Squares’ annual dance weekend from 2017-2024.

FAQs:

Q1: I have absolutely no coordination/two left feet/negative dance experience. Is this really for me?

A1: Yes! This event is specifically for people who think they can't dance. Square dancing works because it breaks down complex movements into simple, predictable patterns. If you can follow logical instructions and are willing to move your body, you already have everything you need.

Q2: Do I need to bring a dance partner?

A2: No. This is a great place to meet new people.

Q3: Do I need to be a certain type of person to join this event?

A3: Everyone is welcome no matter the age, gender, race, orientation, ethnicity, ability, political affiliation, etc. We prefer people who are kind, open, and nuanced in their approach when meeting new people. We prefer people who ask questions in good faith rather than leading with assumptions. If this sounds like you, we’d love to have you.

Refund Policy:
Refunds can be requested up to 48 hours before the event start time; after that, all purchases are final.
