Archives and the Decolonial Imagination in Palestine: An intergenerational conversation
How can archives be used, subverted, and reimagined to resist Palestine’s colonial present? Palestinian filmmakers Mahasen Nasser-Eldin and Rana Abushkaidem will screen short films that repurpose archival material to imagine decolonial possibilities for Palestine’s present and future. Having met as teacher and student at Bethlehem’s Dar al-Kalima University, the two will reflect on intergenerational connections, feminist pedagogy, and a politics of hope and love. In conversation with Kareem Estefan, of Cambridge Film & Screen, they will also discuss the situation for filmmaking in Palestine, low-budget filmmaking as resistance to colonial and capitalist modes of production, and their relationship to radical filmmaking traditions such as Third Cinema.
