Afro In Bio: Surviving Grad School
Hello,
Thank you for registering for “Surviving Graduate School.” This is the first in the Afro-in-Bio series and it promises to be insightful and helpful.
We know that you must have registered for this because you’re in a Biology-related Masters or PhD Program in the US or from outside the US, or you may be registered because you’re currently applying to get into a biology-related grad school program. Whatever category you fall into, the goal of this forum is for participants to gain insights to succeed in grad school. It’ll be both a talk and discussion panel answering the pertinent questions you have about surviving grad school - and so it is for you!
Some of the topics to be discussed include
How to come up with research ideas and questions
Tools (and solutions) for carrying out research
Planning ahead for qualifying exams
Thinking ahead for thesis writing and publishing
Accessing resources (funding, research grant, conference travel funds, etc)
Advise on conferences and other presentations
Hacking teaching and research assistantship
Our panelists are from different fields of Biology (including Botany, Zoology, and Microbiology related programs …excluding biomedical sciences though). They are;
Seun Oladipupo – A postdoctoral Researcher at Yale University whose interests include entomology, molecular biophysics, and biochemistry.
Phebian Odufuwa – A Ph.D. candidate in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior, Boise State University, Boise, Idaho
Taiwo Akinyemi – A recent Ph.D. holder in Microbiology. He is currently an Application Scientist - Synthetic Biology, at Integrated DNA Technologies
This is the first of many research and open forum conversations for Africans in Biological sciences. You do not want to miss it!!
We cannot wait to see you all there! Please invite (or share with) other #AfroInBio like you!
Hosts,
Oluwatobi Oso, Yale University
Oluwatoyosi Adaramodu, University of Pennsylvania
