Anatomy of a Flat Back

When doing a flat back, it is more important to have a straight back as opposed to straight legs. Here are two examples of props that could be used if you would like to use a prop (and have straight back and legs). If you want to be prop free then I suggest bending your knees and have your peace fingers touching the floor while keeping your back flat and neck long. These two women have a nice flat back in their second pictures. The woman on the top has a nice long neck as well. It is important to look forward as the top woman is doing as opposed to looking up like the bottom woman is doing. The only suggestion that I would make to both ladies is to have more weight on that ball of the foot as opposed to weight on the whole foot. You want to feel as if you are going to fall over. What this does is move your hips directly over your ankles opposed to hips being slightly behind the foot. If you want to know how you look why not take a movie to see where you are. What you measure you can manage. What you practice will progress. Remember, it is yoga practice, not yoga perfect. Let’s get bendy. See you for a supplemental practice tonight at 6:30 pm PST.
