Be the BEST speaker at the event Aug
Wednesday at 8.27am, I got a message from Shelley.
"Can I book a meeting...this morning?"
That evening, she was speaking at an industry launch event full of peers.
It was a great opportunity that had come up at the last minute.
She wanted it to be as good as possible, and she didn't have much time to prepare.
We spoke at 9.30am
Later that evening, I sent her a DM.
Me - "How did your talk go?"
Shelley: " It went well!!!! People commented on the story and personal touch. I couldn't have done it without you!!"
After her talk, people asked Shelley to:
Speak at their event
For a copy of her book
To connect on LinkedIn
It was a success.
Shelley got maximum ROI from her time on stage.
If speaking is part of your BD strategy, like Shelley, avoid this common mistake.
Don't educate a room of clever people.
It's the fastest way to be forgettable.
Instead, she told them the time she was travelling in Poland and asked for directions. And how, within minutes, she was advising the man she'd asked for directions on how more sunlight would improve his elderly mother's health.
Shelley, the Light Lady, has a PhD in the health benefits of light and has written a book on it.
The story she started her talk with framed her expertise.
At the launch event, she didn't educate people about light.
She told this human story.
Then she challenged the room of clever people to do the same.
She motivated her peers.
She inspired them.
She was the best speaker at the event in a room full of industry experts.
The event attendees came and spoke with her afterwards.
✔︎ Creating relationships
✔︎ Setting up her next speaking gigs
✔︎ Getting inquiries about her consulting work
And you can do the same.
