Part 2: Post-Grant Process Retrospective
Join us for a live, unscripted retrospective on "Funding Innovation in the Social Sector", a year-long grant project exploring how philanthropy can better support risk-taking and experimentation.
This conversation brings together Gary Chou, the researcher and process designer for the project, and Nick Barr, the funder and "mission control" throughout the journey. Together, they’ll reflect on:
✅ What worked well and what had to evolve in the custom process Gary designed to carry out the grant.
✅ Lessons learned from navigating an unrestricted, individual grant focused on generating and sharing learning outcomes.
✅ Honest feedback from Nick about Gary’s approach, as Gary steps into the “hot seat” to reflect on what he might do differently next time.
This event is an opportunity to go behind the scenes of an experimental grant—from the invisible work of process design to the shared insights that emerged along the way. It’s for process nerds, philanthropy practitioners, and anyone curious about how thoughtful experimentation can lead to meaningful outcomes in the social sector.
